For more than forty years, Darryl Richards has been a driving force in Florida’s litigation landscape and a cornerstone of Johnson Pope’s leadership. As Managing Partner, Darryl blends the instincts of an experienced trial lawyer with the steady judgment of a business strategist, guiding clients—and the firm itself—through high-stakes challenges that demand both intellect and composure.

Darryl’s practice spans a remarkable breadth of disputes, from complex business and real estate litigation to healthcare conflicts and professional liability claims. He has represented executives, physicians, entrepreneurs, and organizations in virtually every sector of Florida’s economy. His clients rely on him for one reason above all others: when the situation is complicated, emotional, or financially significant, Darryl brings clarity and control. He approaches each matter with the belief that every dispute—no matter how contentious—can be resolved through disciplined preparation, respect for process, and a precise understanding of the law.

That philosophy has produced exceptional results. Over his career, Darryl has led cases involving multimillion-dollar commercial contracts, shareholder breakups, and healthcare partnership dissolutions. In 2025 alone, he secured a multi-million-dollar settlement for a CEO wrongly accused of violating a non-compete agreement, defeating the opposing company’s injunction and doubling their original offer. In another complex arbitration between former physician partners, he recovered $1.85 million for his clients after proving defamation and enforcing a seven-figure award. These victories reflect more than legal acumen—they show the power of perseverance and strategy grounded in decades of courtroom experience.

A Florida Certified Circuit Court Mediator, Darryl is equally adept at resolving disputes outside of trial. His dual perspective—as advocate and neutral—has shaped his belief that the best outcomes often emerge when both sides can see the broader picture. Whether arguing before a judge or facilitating compromise between business partners, Darryl’s approach is characterized by rigor, civility, and a deep respect for fairness.

Within Johnson Pope, Darryl’s leadership has helped sustain the firm’s culture of collaboration and client-first service. Colleagues describe him as thorough, composed, and unwavering—a lawyer who listens carefully, prepares relentlessly, and never loses sight of the people behind the case. After four decades of representing clients across Florida, Darryl remains motivated by the same principle that drew him to law in the first place: the conviction that disputes, no matter how intense, should be resolved through skill, reason, and the rule of law.

Representative Matters

  • Secured Multi-Million-Dollar Non-Compete Settlement for CEO. Led a landmark case defending a corporate executive accused of breaching a restrictive covenant with his former billion-dollar employer. • Recovered $1.85 Million in High-Stakes Physician Partnership Dispute. Defended clients in a contentious $10-million claim brought by a former physician partner. Proved defamation and obtained a $1.4-million arbitration award, later enforcing the judgment to recover $1.85 million including fees and interest.

  • Achieved $4 Million Recovery in Fintech Ownership Dispute. Represented fintech entrepreneurs in a complex ownership and equity disagreement. After extensive discovery and strategic negotiation, obtained a $4-million recovery, protecting the founders’ interests and preserving company continuity.

  • Successfully Invoked Florida’s Land-Use Dispute Resolution Act in Zoning Enforcement. Applied innovative legal strategy under Fla. Outside the Office

Away from the courtroom and the conference table, Darryl finds balance in motion. He and his wife share a lifelong passion for equestrian sports, spending weekends riding and caring for their jump horses. As a tennis and pickleball player, he values the focus and quick thinking the games demand—traits that mirror his approach to litigation.

Now a proud grandfather, Darryl often says that watching his one-year-old granddaughter discover the world has reminded him of the value of patience, humor, and perspective—qualities that serve him equally well in law and in life.

Looking ahead, Darryl hopes to devote more time to expanding access to justice through local charities and pro bono initiatives. Whether mentoring young lawyers or supporting community organizations, he remains guided by the same principles that have defined his career: preparation, fairness, and service to others.
