Guy Burns Named “Lawyer of the Year”

By Guy M. Burns | Categories: Firm News, LitigationPrint PDF May 2013

Guy Burns, our Tampa based partner, was named “Lawyer of the Year” for 2012 in the category of “Banking and Financial Litigation” by Best Lawyers in the United States.

Over the years, Guy has been listed in Best Lawyers in the United States in no fewer than four different trial practice areas (“Bet the Company Litigation”; “Banking and Finance Litigation”; “Securities and Exchange ‘SEC’ Regulatory Enforcement”; and “Securities and Capital Markets Law.”)  In 2013, Burns was also recognized by Florida’s Best Lawyers in two separate categories, “Securities/Capital Markets Law” and “Securities Regulation.”  In the past, he has also routinely received various other accolades including being named among Florida’s “Legal Elite.”  While his reputation centers around investment and securities related litigation, Guy has routinely handled all types of business and commercial litigation, including cases involving professional malpractice against lawyers, accountants and financial advisors.  Guy primarily represents plaintiffs on a contingency basis but, in some instances, he does accept the representation of defendants both on contingency and/or hourly fee arrangements.

Guy, who hails from Independence, Missouri, moved to Florida in 1973 immediately after graduating from the University of Missouri School of Law, where he was on the Dean’s List and Law Review.  Early in his career, Guy began representing brokerage firms, banks and corporation in their litigation disputes.  After winning many verdicts on behalf of his corporate clients, in the late 1980s, Guy began primarily representing plaintiffs and investors.  Since that time, he has recovered hundreds of millions of dollars on behalf of his clients in both individual and class action cases.  It is Guy’s practice to review potential new cases without fee obligation.  Guy can be reached in our Tampa office.
